People from every corner of the globe are encouraged to live out the Christian gospel in a spirit of joy, simplicity and reconciliation. One simple style of worship that combines prayer, singing, silence and meditation is called Taizé. Taizé has spawned a unique style of worship that has become popular in churches, retreat centers and seminaries throughout the world. Ecumenism (a movement that promotes unity among Christian churches) is the key to Taizé’s appeal, making it attractive to people of different cultures and traditions.
Prayer and silence are at the heart of the Taizé experience, and the singing of distinctive and much-repeated prayer chants during candlelit prayer services is one of its trademarks. Taizé music highlights simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other pieces of scripture, repeated or sung in canon. The repetition is designed to help meditation and prayer. Singing and silence also play a large part. A Taizé worship service does not include preaching.
Trinity’s Taizé services are generally held monthly on the third Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

This style of worship is different than a typical Sunday morning worship experience. It’s a candlelight service and there will be short musical choruses sung over and over to help quiet our hearts and minds. We will read the Gospel reading for the day from the Revised Common Lectionary, after which we observe 20 minutes of silence. After the time of silence, we will say a common prayer, sing one more chant and then quietly depart in peace to love and serve the Lord. The entire service will last about 45 minutes.
This is a time to “Be still and know that God is God.” Psalm 46:10. Come join in and seek the Lord with us. For more information, call the church office at (386) 734-4425 or email Pastor Todd Bardin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
